Megan HaysTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I needed two small jobs done at my home. Installing a new bathroom fan and possibly moving a dining room light. When I called, Will got back to me within minutes. Then an appt was scheduled the next day! When the fan was installed Tim left the space just as he found it. He was respectful of our space. The fan they chose and installed is amazing! We needed a fan that could handle teens and their long showers! IYKYK After discussing ways in which to move the dining room light, we decided not to have it moved. Tim thoroughly explained all options so I knew what we were getting into. He never made me feel pressured to have any work done. I would highly recommend Will and his team to handle any projects. They are true professionals; knowledgeable, friendly, kind and empathetic. My first time using Total Electric was in 2025 and it was to trace and figure out why I had an outdoor circuit continue to trip. It was nice to have someone come out and take care of a trivial situation such as it was. Forward to 2026 and I again needed them to move and relocate a duplex outlet. This time it was not Tim the owner but Carson his son. He did the work in a timely manner, was very neat, very professional and intelligent and definitely knows his craft. In a matter of a few months Total Electric ran new underground for our new sprinkling system,, installed a couple of GFI outside, wired the kitchen for new appliances. The whole crew including Will (in the office) were very professional, fast, and fair priced. Thanl you for the job(s) well done, I will be calling for more work to be done in the future. My daughter purchased a house in Grand Rapids while we live in Chicago. Will and his family came to us from a mutual friend and they showed up…quoted quickly…and did an amazing job at a great value. They sent me images of all their work and even took it upon themselves to install a new door bell for my daughter which was much appreciated! I asked for so much to get done LOL and they did it all I was very impressed! I would highly recommend you take a look at Total Electric for any electrical you need done. Meet Your Local Electricians
Founded in 2008, Tim Reurink started Total Electric with a simple goal: serve his neighbors with honest work, fair pricing, and a name people could rely on. Over the years, his sons Will and Carson joined the team, turning a one-man shop into a trusted family business built on integrity and craftsmanship.
Today, the Reurinks proudly serve the greater Grand Rapids area with the same hometown values they began with—treating every home with respect, every customer like a neighbor, and every job as if it were for their own family. We’re not a big corporate outfit. We’re local, we care, and we stand behind our work—because that’s what we’d expect in our own homes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer Free Estimates?
Yes — we provide free estimates for most residential electrical projects. For larger or more complex jobs, we’ll walk you through the scope and pricing before any work begins so you can make an informed decision with no surprises.
Are your electricians licensed and insured?
Absolutely. Every electrician on our team is fully licensed, insured, and trained to meet Michigan electrical codes and safety standards. Your home and family’s safety come first, always.
What areas do you serve?
We serve homeowners throughout the greater Grand Rapids metro area, including Wayland, Ada, Byron Center, Caledonia, Moline, and neighboring communities. If you’re unsure whether we cover your area, just give us a call — we’re happy to help.
Do I need a permit for electrical work in my home?
For many projects — like panel upgrades, major wiring changes, or new circuits — a permit is required. Don’t worry, we handle the permitting process for you and ensure the work meets local code requirements.
Can you help with small electrical jobs, or only big projects?
We’re happy to help with projects of all sizes — from replacing a broken outlet or light switch to full home rewiring or panel replacements. No job is too small – we’re your local guys.
How quickly can you come out for service?
Many appointments can be scheduled within 24–72 hours, but sometimes we’re booked out a bit longer. If you have an urgent electrical issue or a safety concern, we do our best to provide same-day service when available.
What should I do if my breaker keeps tripping?
A tripping breaker is usually a sign of an overloaded circuit or a wiring issue. Resetting it may provide temporary relief, but if it continues, it’s important to have an electrician inspect it. It may be time to add a circuit or address a safety issue behind the walls.
Why do my lights flicker or dim when an appliance turns on?
This often happens when a large appliance (like an AC or microwave, or even a vacuum) pulls more power than the circuit can safely deliver. It could be a loose connection, aging panel, or under-sized circuit. We can diagnose the cause and recommend the safest fix.
